About the composition
This work was composed on the occasion of the NK participation of the A-percussion ensemble of CMV Oranje Bolsward.
The Conquer of the Kraken tells the story of the Nordic zoologist Erik Pontoppidan. He was the first to describe the existence of the Kraken. A gigantic sea monster with many tentacles that brought down every ship.
In the work Erik goes hunting for the monster to kill it once and for all. The gray rocky coasts of Norway loom up and we see Erik and his crew leave. Out on the open water to search for the Kraken. After a long time on the open water, shadows appear under the water surface. During the fight with the beast, half the ship is swallowed, but one of Erik's men manages to take down the Kraken with a good shot.
After the battle, the crew drifts for days, lost at sea. Until someone finally sees the Nordic coasts appear. The survivors of the journey are welcomed as heroes and Erik can finally return home.
