About the composition

Nemesis is the Greek goddess of righteous vengeance. In the past she was worshipped by gladiators and warriors who fought for their lives.

Part 1 – GLADIATORS
In the first part, the impressive drums can be heard before the gladiators go into battle in the arena. During the fight, many of them think back to their home. But the fight continues until the last man has died. Cruelly and with great violence, the last man also dies in front of thousands of spectators.

Part 2 – NYX
Part two takes us through a clear night full of stars. Nemesis' mother is Nyx , the ancient Greek goddess of the night. She rides across the sky in a chariot, while she lays the dark mist of Erebus (her husband) over the earth. Nemesis watches her mother at work and watches how she fills the sky with thousands of beautiful stars every day.

Part 3 – BATTLE OF AMPHIPOLIS
The last part recounts the battle in 422 BC between Athens and Sparta. 1500 men are sent to the city of Amphipolis to recapture it. The Spartans avoid the battle with the army and retreat. During the retreat, the Athenian army is still overwhelmed by the Spartans during a surprise attack. Panic ensues and the Athenians flee to Eion. The Athenian army ultimately loses 600 men, while the Spartans only lose 7.
